“La Memoria del Rio” is an innovative initiative by the SDRD (Secretaria Distrital de Recreacion y Deporte) to invest in mobile infrastructures that enable the decentralization of the city’s cultural activities, bringing events to diverse urban spaces that can be reactivated.

At the intersection of public art and temporary architecture, the design pays tribute to the hydraulic infrastructures that have been underutilized in the city of Bogotá: the rivers. These systems, shaped by the surrounding hills, are in constant transformation and adapt to changing conditions over time. This idea inspired the development of a modular roof capable of easily adjusting to different spatial contexts, evoking the sinuosity of the hills in its geometry and incorporating a fluid materiality that celebrates the water systems of the savanna.

The interior atmosphere of space is inspired by a universal process of transformation: the chrysalis. Just as the caterpillar builds its shelter to undergo metamorphosis and become a butterfly, users of this space will experience a social and cultural transformation for the city through a play of transparencies and shifting atmospheres.

“La Memoria del Rio” is not simply a temporary infrastructure: it is public sculpture dedicated for cultural activities, an architecture that appears and disappears in step with the movements of the city. Its fleeting presence seeks to reconnect Bogotá with the memory of its rivers and with the possibility that culture may once again flow through their channels, transforming every place it touches.
